Top 15 Cities for Baby Boomers Favor Warm Weather, Cost of Living

When it comes to the best cities for baby boomers, the best-equipped towns have more than just a temperate climate. 

Some cities actually lost a large percentage of baby boomers in the years between 2000 and 2010, including New York and Los Angeles. Yet others have emerged as the best towns for boomers based on a number of factors that includes climate, but also spans other factors such as health care access. 

Mapping the top 15 cities for baby boomers, personal storage startup SpareFoot ranked the cities in its research across a number of criteria including boomer population growth, housing affordability, per capita income growth, per capita GDP growth and number of health care workers per person. 

Topping the list are San Antonio; Boise; Raleigh, N.C., Austin, Texas; and McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas, all receiving high marks across categories. 

Following the top five were Nashville, Tenn; Orlando, Florida; Phoenix; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Charlotte, N.C. 

“To determine America’s Baby Boomer Boom Towns, we analyzed not just Boomer population growth for the country’s 100 most populated metro areas, but also per-capita growth in gross domestic product (GDP), per-capita personal income growth, housing affordability and number of health care workers per capita,” the authors note. 

The list is largely based in the south, with four of the top 15 cities based in Texas. Does your city make the best of list for boomers?
