CommunityONE, the public service Division of Security One Lending (S1L), and us here at RMD are teaming up to promote, organize, and mobilize a community service project in New Orleans before the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association’s Annual Conference in November.
Working with the Bayou Rebirth and Project 195, the reverse mortgage community will provide clean up support to the areas around New Orleans that have been impacted by the BP oil spill. By helping to restore native vegetation in vulnerable areas impacted by the spill, it will assist in the overall recovery of the wetlands and give protection against future flooding and storm surges.
“This project began as a simple commitment on my part to help others in need during the November conference,” said Rhiannon Behnke, SVP of Security One Lending and the leader behind the project. “When I mentioned this to several of my colleagues at Security One Lending, it became apparent that many people wanted to join me for a work day and had a heart for serving others.”
S1L contacted me for help in spreading the word and after reaching out to a few companies… I realized more would want to take part.
Already, industry leading companies like American Advisors Group, Bank of America, Genworth Home Equity Access, Generation Mortgage Company, Urban Financial and Live Well Financial have all committed to taking part in the restoration efforts.
The response from the reverse mortgage community has been incredible, but we need more people. Everyone should already be signed up to attend NRMLA’s annual conference (FYI… cheaper if you buy your tix before Sep 6th), so we encourage everyone to take part in this industrywide effort.
