The Better Business Bureau Serving Metro Atlanta, Athens & Northeast Georgia recognized Generation Mortgage Company with an award honoring ethical marketplace practices for the third year in a row. The company’s Chief Information Officer Walt Carter has also been named Corporate Georgia CIO of the year.
The awards were presented following Generation’s exit from reverse mortgage originations, announced in October. The company remains a reverse mortgage servicer and has continued in the business of securitizing reverse mortgage loans through Ginnie Mae.
Based on the BBB Center for Character Ethics’ Ethical Enterprising Framework, the Torch Awards acknowledge businesses with admirable ethical practices as part of the BBB’s national “educate and recognize” program.
“At Generation, we are committed to having a positive impact on our industry, our customers and our community, and we are thrilled to have our efforts acknowledged by the Better Business Bureau Serving Metro Atlanta, Athens & Northeast Georgia,” said Generation President and CEO Colin Cushman.
While Generation has been a recipient of the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics for the past three years, this year’s award included new judging criteria.
All entries were evaluated by an independent panel of judges comprised of volunteer business and community leaders who have a “deep understanding of ethics,” according to a release from Generation.
Entrants were asked to complete questions and provide documentation based on Six Principles of Trust: Leadership Commitment to Ethical Practices; Communication of Ethical Practices; as well as Organizational Commitment to Ethical Practices, Performance Management, Human Resources and Commitment to the Community.
“Generation has a long-standing commitment to ethics, and the 2014 Torch Awards judges were impressed with the company’s dedication to serving its customers and business partners in an ethical and trustworthy manner,” said Fred Elsberry, Jr., president and CEO of the Atlanta branch of the BBB. “With the addition of the new Torch Awards format, it was an extra-sepcial year for the program, and Generation was one of the more deserving organizations for this award.”
On the heels of the Torch award, Generation’s CIO Walt Carter was named to the state’s CIO honor by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association. Carter has led the company’s technology division for more than three year, including through the launch of its nu62 software.
“The entire Generation team is extremely proud of Walt being named 2014 Georgia CIO of the Year,” said Generation President and CEO Colin Cushman. “Walt has developed a culture within our IT department where members do not shy away from challenges but instead rise to the occasion, and after seeing his work first-hand, I cannot imagine anyone else more deserving of such an honor.”
