Economic Indicators Fall; Breadth of Decline Narrows

The nation’s recession may continue through the summer, but the intensity is likely to ease, according to The Conference Board, whose Leading Economic Index released today showed a 0.3% decline in March. “There have been some intermittent signs of improvement in the economy in April, but the leading economic index and most of its components are still pointing down,” says Ken Goldstein, economist at the Conference Board. The index has not risen in nine consecutive months.
