Survey results published by Gallup found that 52% of non-retired Americans doubt they will have enough money to live comfortably once they retire.
This year’s update was included as part of Gallup’s annual Economy and Personal Finance survey and was the first time that a majority of those not retired said they will not have enough money to live comfortably in retirement. It marks 18 point drop in this measure among non-retirees compared to just five years ago.
The survey found that the rising concern about retirement income became clearer when you examine how much non-retirees expect to rely on each of 10 income sources in retirement. If you go to Gallup’s website you can see the chart which shows each income source.
Below is a screenshot of the graph for “Home Equity”, which shows the percentage of people expecting to rely on home equity as a source of income dropped 2% compared from 2008.
Unfortunately, the Gallop poll didn’t establish what it means to “live comfortably” in the survey but either way it still provides some interesting information. The graphs are pretty impressive because they’re interactive, definitely worth seeing.
