Reverse Mortgage Education Week Schedule of Events Released

The National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA) recently released the schedule of events for its inaugural Reverse Mortgage Education Week taking place this month.

During the week of April 18-22, NRMLA will host a series of webinars in efforts to teach non-industry professionals such as Realtors, financial advisers and health care workers about how a reverse mortgage could help serve their clients.

In bringing these reverse mortgage-focused education sessions to a broader audience of professionals, NRMLA has teamed with several trade organizations to sponsor the webinars, including the Mortgage Bankers Association, American Society on Aging, and the National Association of Realtors.

Since NRMLA first announced the Education Week initiative late February, several details have emerged in the past month on some of the forthcoming sessions. Now it appears a week’s worth of content is finally on the agenda, according to an update from NRMLA late last week.

Monday, April 18, the Mortgage Bankers Association will host a webinar on “Recent Developments in HECM and Reverse Mortgage Lending.” Open to both members and non-members of the MBA, this session will serve mortgage professionals who want the latest information on changes to the HECM program, including reverse mortgage updates designed to ensure HECMs are a safe and sustainable solution for consumers while also mitigating risk to the Federal Housing Administration insurance fund.

Tuesday, April 19, the American Society on Aging is hosting a session titled “Planning for the Costs of Aging.” This webinar is designed for eldercare professionals who want to learn more about the financial tools that are available to help manage the demands facing older adults. Featured speakers for the session include gerontologist Barbara Howard; financial planning expert Jamie Hopkins; and NRMLA education committee co-chair Dan Hultquist who will provide an overview of reverse mortgages.

Thursday, April 21, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) will host a session on “What to Expect When Selling a Home Subject to a Reverse Mortgage.” Open to both members and non-members of NAR, the webcast will prepare real estate professionals for listing and selling a home that has a reverse mortgage, whether the seller is the original borrower, an heir, the estate, or an REO.

Lastly, on Friday, April 22, NRMLA is hosting a session titled “Meeting Your Clients’ Needs with a Reverse Mortgage.” This webinar is for eldercare professionals, financial advisors, mortgage professionals, real estate professionals and social workers who want to learn more about the role of a reverse mortgage can play in fulfilling the financial needs of older adults and creating peace of mind.

Speakers during this webcast will provide examples of how HECM loan proceeds can be used to manage challenges unique to seniors; how home equity can enhance a retirement plan and a reverse mortgage line of credit can improve portfolio survivability; and how a senior homebuyer can benefit from using a reverse mortgage to purchase a home.
