Fannie Mae will open a mortgage help center for troubled borrowers in Dallas on Dec. 17. It’s the sixth center opened by the government-sponsored enterprise. Other cities with centers include Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix. Fannie Mae employs counselors to meet with the borrower to explain any workout options or other foreclosure alternatives. Dallas-Fort Worth foreclosure postings at local county courthouses reached nearly 64,000 in 2010, a record high for one year, according to Foreclosure Listing Service, which tracks local numbers. But according to RealtyTrac, a national data provider, the Dallas-Forth Worth metropolitan statistical area holds the 106th highest foreclosure rate in the country for the third quarter. One in 208 homes there received a filing. The 90-plus day delinquency rate on Fannie Mae’s mortgage pool dropped to 4.7% in August, the last available month of data.
