Annual NRMLA Conference to Focus on Reverse Mortgage ‘Reset’

In the wake of several substantial program changes that have taken place over the past year, the 2014 National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association conference to be held in Miami November 10-12 will focus on a reverse mortgage “reset.”

“We are trying to best prepare members for a new audience based on the changes made last year and the changes coming with financial assessment,” says NRMLA Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications Marty Bell. “We’ve built the bulk of the program around how best to present reverse mortgages to that new audience.”

The conference program spans various areas of retirement funding and planning, as well as panels including HUD officials Deputy Assistant Secretary Kathleen Zadereky and Karin Hill, Director, Single Family Housing Programs; and Christopher Herbert, Acting Executive Director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University.

Discussion topics will cover the support of adult children as that support weighs on retirement planning, and attendees will hear from BNY Mellon’s Michael Gordon on how reverse mortgages fit into financial planning.

Marketing panels will address topics including recent press coverage stemming from industry-sourced blogs and updates on the Extreme Summit, launched by NRMLA and industry participants last year.

“A lot of the favorable press today comes from what we are creating ourselves,” Bell says. “Blogs are being picked up by newswires. We’re encouraging everybody to be a blogger.”

For the first time, attendees can complete an entire year of NMLS credits during the conference including a three hour session on financial assessment and two hours of ethics courses.

And finally, the conference will close with a golf tournament, The Reverse Mortgage Open on Wednesday, November 12.

Registration is now open and can be completed online
