When Reverse Mortgages Make Sense, Fed Finally Raises Rates

ReverseFocusReverse Focus Weekly Podcast Episode #393

In this week’s Reverse Focus podcast, Shannon Hicks discusses a recent article in TIME’s Money section describes when using a reverse mortgage makes sense in retirement. In the latest of what has been a stream of positive press regarding reverse mortgages, the article features commentary from a financial planner who offers some important considerations for homeowners contemplating getting a reverse mortgage.

Also discussed, a reverse mortgage lender who entered the market one year ago is setting its sights on aggressive growth in 2016. That company is Willow Bend Mortgage, who sees 2016 as the year to hunker down and commit more resources to growing its reverse mortgage division which launched in January 2015.

In another podcast story, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) last week took heat from members of Congress during a hearing on the merits of the agency’s consumer data collection. Raising concerns that the agency’s data collection on millions of Americans financial information threatens privacy and security, one testifying witness even likened the Bureau’s mass data gathering efforts to that of the NSA.

Lastly, the Federal Reserve last week finally announced it will raise interest rates after months of speculation this year. The rate increase, though modest, is the first time the Fed has increased rates in nearly a decade.
