Warren Buffett aspires to be a mortgage debt collector

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK) is in a bidding war with Nationstar Mortgage Holdings (NSM) for the assets of ResCap, the nation’s fifth-largest mortgage servicer, behind Wells Fargo (WFC) Bank of America (BAC), JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Citigroup (C), The Street wrote in an article Monday.

The article discusses how the winner will become a major player in mortgage servicing with the ability to collect debts tied to 2.4 million home loans.

While other major players are trying to get out of mortgage servicing, such as Bank of America, Buffett is apparently keen on getting into the space and is quietly fighting for it.
