During the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association annual conference in New Orleans in early November, reverse mortgage lenders gathered for two important opportunities to give back through service both to the local community in New Orleans and to seniors through the Wish of a Lifetime Foundation. Community One, a public service division of Security One Lending Corp., led the charge.
In a homebuilding project for Habitat for Humanity, more than 30 reverse mortgage lender volunteers gathered to construct a local home. View a slideshow of the event.
Later in the week, 400 attendees gathered to raise funds for the Wish of a Lifetime Foundation. Thorough contributions of reverse mortgage lenders and sponsor companies, five seniors were granted wishes through the effort, which raised a total of $26,400.
Among those who received granted wishes: Karen Luerssen, 67, who will receive a hot air balloon ride along with her daughter; Don Carlson, 89, who has long visited World War II memorials and has two remaining memorials to see, will be granted visits to the remaining museums on his list; and Ken Muston, 87, a former Prisoner of War who served during World War II whose wish is to return to his place of capture in Anzio Beach, Italy.
