The Department of Housing and Urban Development may have made a lot of headway of late on reverse mortgage program changes and bolstering its Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund after several years of economic turmoil, but it’s still one of the ugliest buildings in Washington, according to a Buzzfeed compilation.
The agency, which made Buzzfeed contributor Benny Johnson’s list of the seven ugliest buildings tax dollars can buy, ranks second only in its ugliness to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It joins other top-7 contenders The Department of Health and Human Services, The U.S. Post Office Building, The Department of Energy, The Department of Labor and The Department of Education.
Johnson, in his collection of the ugliest buildings quips said that the HUD building was “designed by Buzz Lightyear,” noting all of its flying saucer-shaped elements and pod-like structures for on-site attendants.
In a follow up article on why you should not take photos of the seven ugliest buildings in Washington, Johnson describes the unfavorable reception he was met with while taking photos of the HUD building.
