House Committee To Investigate Alleged HUD Violations

A House committee will hold a hearing this week taking a look into alleged violations at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The hearing follows an investigation conducted by the HUD Office of Inspector Generation that found potential ethical and legal violations by senior HUD officials.

Separate investigations resulted in two HUD-OIG reports released in August and February of last year relating to improper hiring and conflicts of interest, as well as possible prohibited lobbying activities.

The hearing, held by the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will examine the findings of the report, with testimony from witnesses including HUD Inspector General David Montoya and legal counsel for the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

In 2013, the Department was investigated for $770 million in questionable spending, also brought by the HUD-OIG.
