Hensarling to Replace Bachus as House Financial Services Chair

Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) will replace former chair-holder Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) as the House Financial Services Committee Chair, according to the committee this week.

Hensarling’s endorsement by the House Republican Steering Committee occurred during the 113th Congress, as most expected the Texas representative to succeed Bachus once he reached his position’s limit.

The House Republican Steering Committee endorsed Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) this week as part of a list of 19 recommendations for committee chairmanships released by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

The recommendations will be presented to the full House Republican Conference today for ratification, according to the Steering Committee.

“Our team will continue focusing on reforms that will grow our economy and create new jobs, and on holding the Obama administration accountable through aggressive oversight of the Executive Branch. The House of Representatives is an outpost in Democratic-controlled Washington for the priorities of the American people, and I have every confidence that the chairmen selected today are up to the task of translating those priorities into solutions Americans are counting on to get our economy moving again,” Boehner said.
