HousingWire CEO Clayton Collins sits down with Courtney Graham and Paul Akimade, two of HousingWire’s 2021 Marketing Leader winners, for a candid chat about what it means to be a mortgage marketer.

Clayton Collins: Can you kick us off with your overview of what you believe the role of the chief marketing officer is and mortgage banking?
Paul Akinmade: We’ve moved past being in a position where marketing just buys leads and creates fliers. I think with the amount of innovation and technology, people who are leading these departments really have to understand how technology works, and how it allows our departments or organizations to be more successful.
Courtney Graham: Completely agree with the thoughts that Paul shared. I think one way in which I tend to think of it in terms of what is the role of the CMO, who’s leading the marketing team and marketing strategy, and I really want to make sure that we’re always checking off kind of three boxes.
