[Video] HereÕ one way housing and healthcare go together

Former representative Rick Lazio explains

Housing and healthcare, to some people's surprise, are closely related. Recent talks surrounding President-elect Donald Trump selecting Ben Carson, a former GOP presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon, as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development helped bring this association to the forefront of housing conversations.

The healthcare industry, which is just as complicated as the housing industry, crosses paths with housing in many situations.

During the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America's Families Forum in Dallas on Nov. 18, Rick Lazio, who represented New York in the U.S. House of Representatives, explained in an interview with HousingWire Editor-in-Chief Jacob Gaffney one core aspect of how housing and healthcare tie together.

Jumping to 2:10 in the video, Lazio explains what can be done to address affordable housing and healthcare problems.

Lazio states that there are thousands of Americans that are in hospitals that don’t want to be there and don’t need to be there.

“They can move into permanent housing with supported services, and they could save taxpayers millions of dollars,” he states.

Check out the video for the rest of his explanation and feel free to watch before 2:10 to get the full interview.
