Jobless claims dropped by 5,000 filings with 305,000 applications received during the week ending Sept. 21, the Department of Labor said. This drop comes after two weeks of computer system backlogs, which impacted the reported numbers. Per Bloomberg:

"Companies are running pretty lean at this point, so that’s always a good catalyst for potential pickup in hiring down the road,"Jacob Oubina, senior economist at RBC Capital Markets LLC in New York, said before the report. "The overall trend even before we started having the technical issues was decidedly lower."
