Condo developers are pushing preferred lenders since they can often offer speedier and more convenient transactions. However, developers also know that the lender will ensure the building follows the minimum requirements set by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mae, The Wall Street Journal reports.

But settling for the developer's preferred lender often comes at a price.
