Stephanie Garrett-Stearns is senior vice president of Communications and Fund Development at The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB), where she leads communications, fundraising, stakeholder engagement and public affairs efforts for one of the nation’s largest nonprofit housing developers. Her work supports an organization that owns or manages more than 18,000 homes and serves residents across communities throughout the country.
Over the past year, Garrett-Stearns led fundraising strategies that generated more than $6.3 million while securing national media coverage for housing and community development initiatives. Her work has helped amplify TCB’s efforts to expand housing opportunities, strengthen resident services and support economic mobility programs serving thousands of residents.
Garrett-Stearns has played a key role in raising awareness for initiatives including Home Room 2.0, CareWorks and Building a Healthier Cincinnati, programs focused on housing stability, entrepreneurship, workforce development and economic opportunity. She also helped communicate the impact of TCB’s delivery of nearly 1,000 new and renewed homes and the expansion of its management portfolio by more than 3,500 residences.
Prior to joining TCB, Garrett-Stearns served as chief communications officer for Boston Mayor Kim Janey. She remains active in civic and nonprofit leadership through service with organizations including Economic Mobility Pathways and the Martin Luther King Memorial Breakfast Committee. Through her work in communications, fundraising and community engagement, Garrett-Stearns continues to help advance housing solutions and create opportunities for residents and communities nationwide.
