Joshua Montano brings nearly two decades of data analysis and systems experience to his role as director of Loan Origination Systems (LOS) at American Financial Network (AFN). He leads a team of database administrators and software developers responsible for supporting the company’s loan production workflows, data management and process automation.
Over the past year, Montano has focused heavily on the development and implementation of a new loan origination platform designed to bring greater automation, performance and usability to the lending process. Working closely with IT, operations and a third-party software partner, he has played an integral role in guiding AFN’s transition to a system built around task-based workflow management; automated routing and prioritization; and AI-assisted task completion.
His leadership has helped position the LOS as a more customizable and intuitive platform that can support the pace and complexity of today’s mortgage market. In addition to overseeing the broader system transition, Montano has also worked on gatekeeper features that lock down data at key stages of the loan process, dramatically reducing the kinds of errors that once occurred more frequently.
Montano is known for being both a strategic leader and a hands-on operator. He has built a team recognized for responsiveness, precision and technical skill, while also maintaining the ability to step into any role within the department when needed. That level of familiarity with the details of the work has helped him lead projects with speed and confidence.
Through his systems leadership, Montano continues to help AFN strengthen its technology foundation and support its next phase of operational growth.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
The best piece of advice is the old adage: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” I’ve turned that into a habit with my team. I treat them with respect, mentor them and help them grow professionally. In return, they support the company and me without hesitation. When people feel valued and their opinions are respected, they thrive. Whenever I’m frustrated with a superior or a team member, I make it a practice to take a close look at my own actions and make sure I’m doing right by my staff.
