Pannell’s impact spans decades of milestones—from developing the first “English-like” rules engines that informed Fannie Mae’s Desktop Underwriter, to overseeing DocMagic’s first complete end-to-end eClosing solution integrating eSignatures, eVaulting, eNotarization and MERS® eRegistry. Under his leadership, DocMagic clients have achieved 15-minute digital closings, saving over $400 per transaction and reducing loan cycle times from hours to minutes.
His influence extends far beyond DocMagic’s client base. Pannell co-chairs the MBA’s Technology Vendor Working Group, sits on the ESRA Board and contributes to MISMO’s Residential Standards Governance Committee, shaping interoperability and compliance standards for the entire mortgage ecosystem.
Most recently, Pannell helped Truliant Federal Credit Union complete the industry’s first eHELOC registration—a milestone proving that even complex products can be digitized securely. Today, DocMagic’s clients use eNotes on 13% of all transactions—well above the industry average—and more than 80% of market eNotes touch DocMagic’s eVault via its partnership with Deutsche Bank.
