Kobie Burrell is director of Development at Optimal Blue, where he leads the technological development of the company’s hedging and trading platforms. A software engineer with a degree from MIT, Burrell began his career in mortgage technology in 2006, contributing to the early development of CompassPoint, a trading and hedging product that has since become a key part of Optimal Blue’s offering.
Following the acquisition of CompassPoint in 2019, Burrell played a central role in integrating the platform into the Optimal Blue ecosystem. His leadership continued with the development and rollout of CompassEdge, a modern, cloud-based platform that consolidates CompassPoint, Optimal Blue Secondary Services and Resitrader. This new system introduces improved speed, configurability and security while allowing for more rapid product innovation.
CompassEdge is now being adopted across the company’s customer base, with nearly 30 clients already migrated. Ultimately, the platform will support all of Optimal Blue’s hedging and trading clients, which make up approximately 40% of the mortgage market.
Burrell’s work has allowed Optimal Blue to streamline its offerings and improve delivery of capital market tools for its customers. By guiding the shift to a unified, scalable platform, he has helped position the company for future growth and adaptability in a fast-changing market. His technical leadership continues to drive value and modernization across Optimal Blue’s trading solutions, ensuring the firm remains competitive and responsive to industry needs.
