As chief executive officer of Radian, Rick Thornberry has served as an indispensable leader for more than seven years, driving growth for Radian’s diversified businesses to serve its stakeholders and support its core mission of enabling access to affordable, sustainable and equitable homeownership. Whether dealing with a global pandemic or turbulence in the housing market, his strong leadership and strategic vision has enabled the company, one of the largest private mortgage insurers in the U.S., to advance its consistent track record of excellent performance, careful risk management and forward-thinking business strategy. Throughout his tenure as CEO, Radian has helped millions of households achieve their dreams of homeownership, and his concerted commitment to social responsibility and diversity, equity and inclusion has made an impressive, important mark on Radian and the industry as a whole.
Thornberry has spearheaded the company’s annual fundraising campaigns to benefit the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Opens Doors Foundation, which helps families with critically ill or injured children afford their rent or mortgage payments while their children are in treatment. He also serves on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. To date, the company has raised over $1.2 million for the cause. It has also committed $900,000 to help the Foundation launch and sustain its partnership with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In recognition of his outstanding work in support of their mission, Thornberry received the Opens Doors Foundation’s Spirit Award in 2019 and its Community Champion award in 2022.
Thornberry has also been one of the mortgage industry’s leading proponents of the value of cultivating and advancing diversity in all forms, directing numerous efforts to formalize, accelerate and provide transparent progress reporting on the company’s commitments to DEI. This includes creating Radian’s Executive Inclusion Council, formalizing a multi-year DEI roadmap, expanding the company’s support for its Employee Resource Groups and establishing an annual multi-day companywide summit on inclusivity in the workplace.

In a demanding career, don’t lose track of family and friends. You should always make time for your loved ones even when life gets busy.
