2024 Rising Star: Darby Campbell

Darby Campbell

With more than two decades of experience in America’s $14 trillion servicing industry, Darby Campbell is the guiding force leading execution on Dara, Sagent’s new unified servicing solution and the industry’s first with end-to-end, real-time data. As Head of Product for Dara, Campbell is directly driving transformative servicing innovation at scale and setting the tone for the next era of mortgage technology innovation.

Campbell’s dedication and perseverance in pioneering Dara’s end-to-end servicing capabilities has been critical in ensuring the success of Dara, and the broader Sagent servicing ecosystem. Campbell works in lockstep with Sagent’s product teams; LoanServ, TEMPO and CARE. While his work mainly encompasses product development, Campbell also works closely with compliance, customer support, and legal to ensure that transparency and awareness are being effectively communicated across teams. As a mortgage tech veteran, Campbell’s deep understanding of the various consumer and operational pain points of the industry has been invaluable in the development of Dara.

Campbell exemplifies Sagent’s relentless commitment to true innovation and transformation for the servicing industry. Even prior to the development of Dara, Campbell recognized the problems that needed to be solved within the servicing industry and was eager to address them, despite the daunting task of upending a 60-year-old system. With his extensive experience in various roles throughout the servicing and mortgage industry, he brings transformative knowledge to Sagent’s product development team. His expertise allowed the team to concentrate on enhancing servicing efficiency through streamlining the variety of ancillary systems into one unified cloud-native platform that offers real-time operational capabilities.

Campbell’s role as an innovator and pioneer who is committed to changing servicing for the better could not better represent the mission and goals of Sagent.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

The best piece of advice I have received is to embrace failure as a fundamental part of progress. It is crucial to recognize that failure is not only acceptable, but necessary when striving to challenge the status quo and disrupt established systems. When I’m with my teams, I always want to impart to them that failure is not indicative of incompetence, but rather an opportunity to learn, refine, and ultimately succeed.
