With more than a decade of experience developing new products and features for business-to-business applications, Brian McCarthy acts as Maxwell’s director of Product Management, where he takes a hands-on role in shaping and guiding the product roadmap to ensure it drives efficiency, cost reduction and profitability for local mortgage lenders. Since joining Maxwell in early 2021, McCarthy has spearheaded major, innovative projects that have measurably impacted the more than 300 lenders on the Maxwell platform, including Maxwell’s Spanish-language loan application, which offers a fully bilingual experience from landing page to submission and which results in a 90% completion rate. By bringing technology-driven features like these to market, McCarthy helps empower lenders to better serve growing borrower demographics, which both enables them to fill their pipelines during a challenging market and helps to support homeownership within the communities they serve.

As a leader on the product team, McCarthy creates a culture of innovation and rigorous research that ensures the technology Maxwell undertakes addresses the everyday realities and challenges of lenders. To achieve an effective feedback loop, McCarthy meets regularly with customers to openly talk through issues and ideas for improvement. McCarthy then leverages his position to advocate for customer needs, integrating their insights into feature improvements and the product roadmap. Similarly, McCarthy runs frequent surveys and polls to gauge lender and borrower satisfaction, using the results to inform ongoing updates.

An area where McCarthy has had outsized impact leveraging technology to drive improvement is within lenders’ interactions with their borrowers. McCarthy has dedicated himself to improving the loan application process through well-designed features that take modern homebuyer needs into account. His enhanced loan application now features a mobile-first interface, improved mapping to URLA for more complete application data and the ability to configure specific loan purpose templates for use cases such as HELOCs. By both streamlining the borrower experience and giving lenders tools to serve a wider array of homebuyer needs, McCarthy has given Maxwell customers important new ways to fill their lead funnels at a time when volume is low. As a result, customer satisfaction remains among the best in the industry, with NPS scores consistently above 68 polled directly from in-app users.
