Michael Maher on boosting your referral business with events

He did that in his own real estate business by hosting housewarming parties and three client appreciation events annually, tailored to what their clients enjoyed, like sports or bowling. The key was to provide entertainment that clients loved and then step back, letting them enjoy.
The ultimate goal of these events and strategies was fun prospecting. While attendees enjoyed themselves, they were also reminded of the speaker’s real estate services. The speaker encouraged referrals, emphasizing that it benefits everyone involved.

Tracey: I think our listeners would want some real key takeaways of what types of events were you throwing and what are some of the best practices that you’ve learned over the years that get them talking about you?
Michael: The best kind of events to have are about what your friends and family like to do. And, there was one central theme to all of our events: I was not the entertainment. Find out what people love to do, provide it for them, and then get the heck out of the way.
People like alcohol. And, there was just one recently that was beer, bacon and bourbon. Huge hit! Who doesn’t like beer, bacon and bourbon? Who’s not going to that? Find out what what your sphere really loves to do.
