Freddie Mac’s Simone Beaty on housing affordability
Today’s Daily Download features a Housing News Podcast crossover episode that includes an interview with Simone Beaty, the director of single-family affordable lending initiatives at Freddie Mac.
In this episode, Beaty explains how Freddie Mac is supporting shared equity programs as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to financially strain Americans nationwide.
Here is a small preview of today’s interview with Beaty, lightly edited for length and clarity:
HousingWire: Our audience is very familiar with Freddie Mac as they work with you guys all the time. While they might think they know a lot about the different affordable housing initiatives you have, can you tell us a little bit about how you’re supporting shared equity programs during this time? Have you had to pivot at all considering the financial hardships many Americans are experiencing?
Simone Beaty: Freddie Mac has products that support shared equity programs, which support long-term affordability for single-family units in a given market. We also have green programs that help folks who want to reduce the amount they’re spending on utilities or those who are already in a home and want sustainability for long-term cost savings during climate change. While those are some of the newer products by Freddie Mac, in my opinion, they will be very necessary for the future. They’ll help us address both affordability and sustainability.
