  • HMBS: Volume Falls in August

    New issues of Ginnie Mae HECM Mortgage Backed Securities (HMBS) fell in August following two straight months of increases. The $844 million in new issues was a 12.9% drop from the $969 million issued in July.  The decline shortened a reoccurring pattern over the past year and a half where HMBS issues would increase for three consecutive months prior to declining.   • HMBS: Volume Spikes in July

    Monthly issues of Ginnie Mae HECM Backed Mortgage Securities (HMBS) continued a see saw pattern with total volume increasing to $969 million in July. Since April 2010, monthly issues of HMBS have fallen into a four month pattern where total volume increases for three consecutive months before falling backing.  The jump in July of $168 million over June's volume of $801 million marked the second consecutive increase since volume from dropped from $1.029 billion in April to $771 million in May.   • HMBS Issuance Grows in March

    For the second consecutive month, issuance of Ginnie Mae HECM backed mortgage securities (HMBS) have increased.  The increase comes amidst a significant drop of total issuance by Ginnie Mae which has reached the second lowest total of the previous 15 months.   Issuance of HMBS totaled $940 million in March, a 3.8% increase over the $906 million issued in February.  It is the fourth highest total HMBS issuance since January of 2010.  By comparison, total issuance of all mortgage backed securities by Ginnie Mae totaled $24.14 billion in March, a nearly 8% drop from February and a 32% drop
