Treasury boards $66.3B in dividends from Fannie, Freddie

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac paid the Treasury $66.3 billion in dividends, according to the most recent government report.

Both of the government-sponsored enterprises received significant bailouts in the wake of the housing crisis, but have returned to profitability with current housing activity levels stabilizing the firms’ financials.

For the current fiscal year to date, the Treasury reported $81.1 billion in dividends from the GSEs thus far.
