RE/MAX expands agent count for first time in two years

Real estate franchisor RE/MAX grew its roster of agents by 1,300 this year, the first increase since 2010.

The housing market continues a slow and rocky recovery. In June, new home sales fell 8.4% from the previous month but remained 15.1% from last year, according to the National Association of Realtors.

More agents may mean the franchisor expects more activity.

The total RE/MAX agent count stands at just under 89,000.

Each agent has roughly 15 years of experience this year, up from just over 12 in 2007, the height of the housing bubble.

RE/MAX recorded nearly 300 franchise sales in the first half of 2012. The largest increase actually occurred in Florida, where sales are up 30% from one year ago.
