Private equity firm turns to apartments for housing recovery gains

Carlyle Group (CG), which is the second-largest private equity firm by assets, is buying and building apartment properties after investing in roughly 50 multifamily projects over the past two years, said Head of Real-Estate Investing Robert Stuckey of the firm.

The company is also wagering on mortgage bond that it started acquiring in 2008 when prices tumbled during the credit crisis.
