A bill in Utah’s legislature would cut the claim period to 90 days for any unpaid balance of a home sold in a short sale.
The proposal, which passed a House committee unanimously Monday, would alter an existing law that gives lienholders six years to file for a deficiency judgment. The bill’s sponsor said that timeframe hurts homeowners and agents trying to sell distressed properties.
