Toban joins SNR Denton as partner

SNR Denton announced Tuesday that Scott Toban has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner in its real estate practice.

Toban was most recently principal and general counsel of the Real Estate Institute, and prior to that was a partner at Mayer Brown. He first practiced as an associate in the real estate practice of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, one of SNR Denton’s founding firms.

“I am delighted to re-join SNR Denton and to be a part of a top-ranked global real estate practice,” said Toban. “I have already experienced the impact of the firm’s expanded platform as it relates to the breadth of services that I can provide clients.”

Toban has more than 17 years of combined experience as a commercial real estate and finance lawyer, and is currently a member of the Illinois Real Estate Administration and Disciplinary Board overseeing real estate brokerage and licensing.

“Scott is an extremely talented lawyer with a rare combination of law firm, business and government experience that adds a new dimension to our broad-based real estate practice,” said Robert Fernandez, practice leader for SNR Denton’s U.S. Real Estate team.

Fernandez added that Toban’s national perspective on regulatory issues affecting the real estate industry matches the firm’s “already deep bench within our Chambers USA top-rated Real Estate practice.”

Toban received his J.D. from the University of Chicago law school, and is a Certified Public Accountant and a licensed Illinois Real Estate Managing Broker.
