Texas representative declined Countrywide mortgage discount

A report on Friday detailing how Countrywide used discounts to buy influence on Capital Hill cleared Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas (pictured), of accusations that he received a discount on a mortgage through Countrywide.

According to the report, Sessions requested he not be given discounts on his 2007 home purchase in Dallas, the mortgage for which was slightly over $1 million. The report displays internal emails that show the standard VIP discount was not applied to Sessions loan.

The report, found here, named six other current and former congressmen known to have received discounts, some of which were offered the discounts directly by former Countrywide chief executive Angelo Mozilo.
