Texas ahead of national job growth numbers

February numbers reveal that all Texas industries and the state’s government sector had more jobs when compared to a year earlier, according to data from the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. Construction ranked first in job creation.

According to the Real Estate Center, the state’s economy gained 355,600 nonagricultural jobs from February 2012 to the same month in 2013. This marks an annual growth rate of 3.3% compared to the national 1.5% increase.

The state’s private sector grew even more, up 3.8% year-over-year, adding 336,800 jobs. This compares to 1.9% growth for the nation.

All Texas metros experienced job gains with the exception of Texarkana.  The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.4% in February from 7.1% a year earlier. Nationwide, the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3% to 7.7% in the same period.
