Stanley Mabbitt joins Ballard Spahr

Nationally recognized consumer financial services lawyer Stanley Mabbitt joined Ballard Spahr’s consumer financial services and mortgage banking groups as of counsel.

“We’re excited to be adding such a seasoned and respected lawyer to our mortgage banking and consumer financial services groups,” Stewart said. “A national practice like this one needs strength in every time zone. Stan’s presence in Phoenix adds significant depth to the team we have in that office and will greatly assist us in serving our clients in the West.”

Mabbitt, who will work out of the firm’s Phoenix and Washington D.C. offices, will focus on counseling financial institutions on compliance with state and federal laws governing consumer credit and deposit products, as well as other financial services, particularly mortgages, as well as rule-making, examinations, and enforcement proceedings involving the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and other federal and state authorities. He is admitted to practice in Arizona, California, and Washington, D.C.

He previously serviced for six years as associate general counsel with Bank of America (BAC) and Countrywide Home Loans. He also worked as a staff attorney for the Federal Reserve’s board of governors in the division of consumer and community affairs in Washington D.C.

“The CFS group at Ballard Spahr is an extraordinarily talented team of lawyers who have a well-deserved reputation for being at the forefront on all of the issues, both on the regulatory side and in litigation affecting financial institutions today,” Mabbitt said. I’m extremely pleased and feel privileged to be working as a colleague with several lawyers I’ve known and admired for years.”
