New restrictions are likely to develop if too many landlords with properties not usually owned by real estate investment trusts make the conversion, said Bill Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management.

“If you push the envelope too much, there will be a crackdown on the REIT industry,” Ackman said.
