July home sales increased 10% from last year, according to real estate franchisor RE/MAX.
It marks the 13th straight month of annual increases in sales even after falling more than 9% from the previous month.
Of the 53 metro areas covered in the RE/MAX survey, 44 reported an uptick, and nearly half saw double-digit increases in sales from one year ago. Sales increased more than 38% in Providence, R.I. and nearly 30% in Chicago.
The median sales price increased 3.7% over the same amount of time to $169,000. Prices rose 33% in Phoenix from last year, the largest growth of any other metro, according to the survey.
Those homes that did sell in July spent nearly a week less on the market than those that sold one year ago.
The National Association of Realtors reports on national existing home sales Wednesday.
