Purple heart recipient receives mortgage-free home

Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. has partnered with the Boot Campaign and the Military Warriors Support Foundation — both nonprofit organizations supporting American military troops that have returned from duty — to present a mortgage-free home to a wounded military veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

U.S. Army Specialist Tyler Schell was severely injured in 2009 after only nine months serving in Afghanistan. He received a Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal as well as the mortgage-free home from the three entities.

Fairway Independent Mortgage has helped thousands of active military personal and veterans buy homes throughout the country. The company’s employees have pledged several hundred thousand dollars in donations over a 12-month period to help provide these mortgage-free homes to veterans in association with the Boot Campaign.

Once a distressed property is acquired, the Military Warriors Support Foundation utilizes funds provided by Fairway to provide accommodations and modifications for the veterans. Additionally, the families in need receive three years of family and financial mentoring.
