After Hurricane Sandy trampled through much of New York, officials are placing their hope and money into pushing repairs to make homes livable once again in lieu of temporary housing, ABC News reported Tuesday.

However, very few homes are fixed so far, raising the question about whether the “rapid repairs” initiative is as great as it sounded to the 10,000 homeowners who signed up for it. Mayor Michael Bloomberg launched the NYC Rapid Repairs initiative three weeks ago in an effort to restore power, heat and other necessities without charge.

An estimated 7,000 initial assessments are complete by contractors in the city and 2,000 more on Long Island for a similar initiative. However, only about 400 projects are complete at this time.
