Oregon Senate wants lenders on the hook for property clean-up efforts

The Oregon Senate on Thursday approved a bill that would let local governments clean up vacant nuisance properties and pass the cost on to the property owner or lender in the form of a property lien.

House Bill 2662A, approved by the House last month, particularly targets vacant homes in foreclosure. The homeowner, expecting eviction, will often leave the home even though the bank hasn’t yet taken ownership, and banks frequently postpone foreclosure actions.
