NY trade groups defend landlords in post-Sandy rent dispute

A court case in which New York renters are alleging landlords owe rent reimbursements for days and nights spent without electricity, water and heat post Hurricane Sandy has drawn the ire of three real estate groups in the city.

The Real Deal out of New York is reporting that The Real Estate Board of New York, the Community Housing Improvement Program and the Rent Stabilization Organization are pushing back, filing a friend of the court brief with a New York State Supreme Court, calling the suit ‘dangerous’ precedent for landlord-tenant relationships and for future disputes.
