In Des Moines, Iowa, 13.3% of all residential properties with mortgages were underwater in the first quarter, an article in the Des Moines Register said.

Iowa also had slightly more homeowners with upside-down mortgages in the first quarter over the fourth. Statewide, 9.91% — 37,946 homes — had negative equity, up from 9.57% in the fourth quarter.
