After saving 62,000 pennies over the course of 35 years, Thomas Daigle of Milford, Mass., was able to make his final mortgage payment in pennies.
It’s unknown whether the bank was happy with his 800-pound delivery of one-cent coins. Of course, Federal law requires accepting the currency as payment on any debt.
He acquired the home in 1977 and used two boxes to drop off his final payment. He jokingly told his wife 30-plus years ago that he was picking up every penny to pay the mortgage.
