Las Vegas man sentenced in mortgage-rescue scam

A theme is beginning to surface in many U.S. states, and it’s one where law enforcement is focusing heavily on those who prey on distressed homeowners, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said.  

Las Vegas is the latest jurisdiction hit with this crime. The Justice Department apparently obtained a 37-month prison sentence – more than two years – against a man accused of falsely promising homeowners aid and relief from foreclosure risk. 

The defendant is the latest in a growing string of cases to offer troubled homeowners promises of refinancing or obtaining relief on their mortgages.
