GMAC donates mortgage-free home to Army veteran

GMAC Mortgage (GJM) donated a home to a wounded Army veteran living in Columbia, S.C., after rehabilitating the property.

The lending firm said the home was given to 1st Sgt. Peter Lara who was wounded while serving the United States overseas in November 2005.

GMAC, a subsidiary of Residential Capital, said it worked with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to deliver a home to Lara.

The firm says it rehabbed the property by putting in new flooring, appliances and a garden.

“GMAC Mortgage is proud to support the men and women who serve our country,” said Joe Pensabene, chief servicing officer with GMAC Mortgage. “With guidance from the Military Warriors Support Foundation, we’re honored to provide lst Sgt. Lara with a home.”

The foundation is a nonprofit based in San Antonio that helps veterans find jobs, medical care, education and homes.
