Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner seems to pay homage to one of the most famous rallying cries in U.S. history with his op-ed in The Wall Street Journal this Friday March 2, 2012, aka Texas Independence Day.

Geithner said amnesia causes financial crises and he worries too many players in the financial market already forget the crisis of 2008. He lauds President Obama and the authors of the Dodd-Frank Act for pushing for tough reforms quickly and helping stabilize what became the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

While he’s not talking about a small mission church in San Antonio, he does try to appeal to one’s emotional side, imploring Americans not to allow past transgressions to reappear.

“Remember the crisis when you hear complaints about financial reform — complaints about limits on risk-taking or requirements for transparency and disclosure,” Geithner writes.

“Remember the crisis when you read about the hundreds of millions of dollars now being spent on lobbyists trying to weaken or repeal financial reform. Remember the crisis when you recall the dozens of editorials and columns against reform published on the opinion pages of this newspaper over the past three years.”

Still, Remember the Crisis just doesn’t have the same ring to it that Remember the Alamo has. And one has to wonder if Tim Geithner can lead his troops in a manner befitting Sam Houston.
