Foreclosure auction sales plummet in Colorado

Foreclosure auction sales in Colorado fell 26% in the first half of 2012 when compared to the same time period a year earlier, the Colorado Division of Housing said Thursday.

Foreclosure auction sales for the second-quarter also hit their lowest level in five years.

The state recorded 3,784 foreclosure auction sales in 2Q, down from 5,333 in the second quarter of 2011.

Meanwhile, in the first half of 2012, the state recorded 8,005 sales, down from 10,938 transactions a year earlier.

Foreclosure filings, on the other hand, edged up slightly in the first half, rising 2.8% from year ago levels, the housing division said. And in the second quarter, Colorado had 8,061 foreclosure filings, up 9.9% from 7,333 last year.

Overall, foreclosure filings in the first half hit their lowest level since 2006, with 15,844 new postings on record.
