The U.S. should not allow private profits from government guarantees. The Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and Federal Homes Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) should be disbanded and reconstituted as a single government mortgage guarantee agency with no portfolio holdings and no private shareholders.
