Here at HW, we’re shocked — but not suprised — to find out that former mortgage industry employees are fighting a stigma among employers in other industries. The OC Register’s Mortgage Insider blog last week covered a job posting from Apple One, a staffing company:

I am looking for candidates for the following PERMANENT job orders. This company is the number one sales and training company within their industry. It’s located in San Juan Capistrano. They grow 37% each year! Here are the 4 job orders they currently have open: Customer Service- Candidates must be fun, upbeat, professional appearance, 3-5 years of customer service experience, good personality. Pay is $18-$20 per hour. NO MORTGAGE CANDIDATES.

Here at HW, we’ve received tons of email from readers suggesting that they are being blackballed because of their mortgage industry experience. Looks like there is finally proof. The assistant manager at Apple One, coincendentally, quickly removed the “NO MORTGAGE CANDIDATES” language from the ad, according to a follow up post. She claimed the client sent it over as such and she blindly posted it, and offered this explanation:

Camacho said some clients are wary of hiring former mortgage workers because they’re afraid that they’ll leave for more money once the mortgage business turns around. But she stressed that AppleOne doesn’t discriminate and that she would send a former mortgage worker to a client for an interview if she felt that person was qualified and capable.
